Tonight on the tube: 24, AMAs and bye to True Blood & Entourage

7:00p/6:00 Central

  • Tonight, learn the true story of how a nuclear facility was almost robbed of weapons grade uranium straight from the mouth of the man who thwarted the attempt and nearly died in the effort on CBS’s 60 Minutes.
  • NBC, meanwhile, preps you for tonight’s NFL match-up with Football Night in America. But most of us will be watching the 2008 American Music Awards Red Carpet Live! special on ABC, won’t we?
  • FOX throws up an hour of King of the Hill repeats, first offering the recent installment where Bobby is treated like he’s “special,” following with the residents of Arlen fighting the construction of a “McMansion.”
  • The CW is scrapping that whole failed Sunday night lineup plan, but tonight you can catch one last week of reruns of those shows you didn’t watch the first time around. Next week the new Sunday night is anchored around a major movie, and features repeats of the first seasons of Everybody Hates Chris, The Game, The Drew Carey Show and Jericho, surprisingly enough.

8:00p/7:00 Central

  • Of course, if you watch the “Red Carpet Live” show then you have to stick around for the 2008 American Music Awards next on ABC, right?
  • CBS follows the teams of The Amazing Race to Russia, where overspending becomes a huge problem for one team.
  • On Showtime’s Brotherhood, Michael’s paranoia increases while Tommy suggests a major lifestyle change to Eileen. Ruby is rooting for her own major lifestyle change as she keeps fighting to shed poundsĀ  on Style.
  • At 8:15p/7:15 Central, NBC kicks off Sunday Night Football with the Colts (6-4) taking on the Chargers (4-6). Fifteen minutes later, at the half, you could flip over to HBO if boxing is more your thing and catch the second installment of De La Hoya/Pacquiao 24/7 instead.
  • The big question on the night is going to be how many people tune into 24: Redemption, the movie thrown together from some of last year’s plotlines. 24 has been off the air for a year and a half now. Does that matter? It shouldn’t, but we’ve seen how the strike has affected other dramas that were off for only nine.

9:00p/8:00 Central

  • Dexter and Miguel’s relationship becomes strained on Showtime, while Debra searches furiously for Anton after learning he was abducted by the Skinner.
  • HBO counters with the season finale of True Blood, with Sookie caught in a killer’s crosshairs. The Cold Case tonight on CBS involves the 1953 murder of a pin-up girl, but I doubt vampires were involved.
  • Sundance offers up the sixth episode and season finale of Pulling, while reality offerings include History’s Cities of the Underworld looking at Hitler’s trenches, Biography’s Watching the Detectives, and Rock of Love Girls: Charm School on VH1.

11:00p/10:00 Central

  • Hank actually says no to sex on Showtime’s Californication. Over on HBO, Vince reconnects with a high school sweetheart on Entourage, while E tries to get him a gig in Gus Van Sant’s next project. Then, on Summer Heights High, Ja’mie dates a younger boy while Jonah is dethroned in the world of break-dancing.
  • Comedy Central is offering up A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All! The first Christmas special for Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report, this special also features The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart along with Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, John Legend and Elvis Costello.
  • Reality on the hour includes Discovery’s Storm Chasers, E!’s The Girls Next Door, Biography’s Female Forces, VH1’s The Pick-Up Artist, and WE’s My Fair Wedding.
  • Effy takes center stage as she tries to fix both her family and Tony and Michelle’s relationship on BBC America’s Skins.
  • On CBS’s The Unit, the team must bring a bride to her groom in order to preserve a truce between two warring Afghani tribes.
