No Doogie Howser, MD (the show, not the unfortunately named city in Maryland) fan in their right mind would have ever expected Neil Patrick Harris to become one of the funniest people on television in the late 2000s. In fact, NPH’s dead-on timing is the only reason why I tune into the tragically mediocre How I Met Your Mother (yeah, hardcore fans, I went there).
He also has the ability to instantly woo women and men alike, which automatically makes him the most powerful man in show business right now (you may not have noticed, but your pants actually removed themselves during the course of this paragraph). It looks like Saturday Night Live is next in line to get the goods when it returns on January 10th for its first 2009 show, because NPH is finally hosting.
Since the election ended, SNL has been struggling to find its voice again. Kicking off with a clean slate in the new year will hopefully allow for some more fresh material, and there are few people better than NPH to assist. Actually, I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a bad skit, just to see how he deals with it.
Is it obvious I have way too much faith in this guy?

Go and watch Season 1 again. And yes I agree Josh Radnor can’t pull that cheesy shit off but if you focus on the good stuff around him like you have to watching SNL, it’s really entertaining…
Nah not weird at all. I’m looking forward to him hosting. He seems like he could be one of those go to guys for SNL hosts, and if Dr. Horrible is any indication, his monologue will be musical.
I completely agree that he could become another Alec Baldwin or Steve Martin in the sense that he could (hopefully) be a frequent host. I also really hope the monologue is a musical one and worth the time viewing.
I no longer watch SNL, for obvious reasons, but I will definitely tune in to see Neil Patrick Harris host. SNL will still suck, but at least the suck will have a sweet, tasty NPH filling!
