“From all of us here at Barney’s apartment, get out.” — Barney shows his sensitive side
How I Met Your Mother returned this week with a funny, unique episode that leaves me feeling all warm and fuzzy toward Bays and Thomas this morning. You all know that I sometimes run hot and cold on this show; well, last night was a stoke-up-the-flames kind of hot. Why? Barney.
As usual, Barney stole the show, starting with the hysterical lotto girl game, a new “definition” for each of the numbers on the balls she picked.
The defining moment, though, was Barney’s video resume (yep, it’s a real site. Don’t forget Ted … sorry, “Dr. X’s” website too). So the actual video itself was absurd, in a funny way. Then, Barney’s made-up word, possimpible? Classic. But Bays and Thomas don’t let it stop there, and that’s what made this show so funny. Barney got 11 job offers from the video. C’mon!
But it doesn’t stop there, either. Barney makes a video resume for Robin, and not only lands her a job that is probably her perfect occupation (talk show host), but keeps her from being deported (not a typical marry a citizen plotline). Because of a hokey video resume, people. With made-up words. That’s funny and unique, it’s never been done before and moments like this are what make HIMYM stand out from the crowd.
Yes, Barney stole the show, but a huge honorable mention goes to Lily for the best excuse for hiding a baby bump on a TV show. As I was watching, I was thinking that Robin’s bump in the karate uniform was pretty inspired. That was before Lily’s hot dog eating contest. And in true Bays / Thomas form, they milked it just enough, because we got to see this not once but twice, both times hysterical.
And a runner-up honorable mention (yeah, probably not such a thing but it’s my post) goes to the irrelevant things Ted and Marshall kept on their resumes. I’m not talking about the Dr. X and the dunk champ, I’m talking about Ted being a supervising lifeguard with no fatalities, and Marshall’s stint as camper of the year. Did you all catch those? Funny stuff.

The only thing that could have made it better was if we got to see Robin’s video resume as well. Although Ted alone at his “happening” was pretty funny.
Great episode. Barney is like Kramer, too much of him is not a good thing. Last night was the perfect amount. I always love College Ted flashbacks.
