“I’ve got to figure out a way to introduce some wood into Bilson’s dark atrium … I think you know what I meant.” — Ted
I agree, that’s a pretty lame quote, but what can I write about an episode of How I Met Your Mother that doesn’t even include a decent Barneyism? Sigh … OK, let’s be fair. There were some amusing parts to this episode, and some of them even followed the Bays and Thomas “formula” That I enjoy. For some reason, though, I didn’t click with this episode and I didn’t laugh out loud once. Not once. Sigh….
Yeah, I did it. I went to www.canadiansexacts.org. I think this is the first instance on HIMYM when a mentioned website wasn’t actually theirs. Since I didn’t have the password to get in (???), I can share no more information with you. You can, however, try to get a peek at www.tedmosbyisajerk.com, from the 8:30 “March Madness” re-run, although you’ll have a tough time since their server is getting slammed right now.
I did have a couple of favorite things in this episiode, the first being the guessing of the combinations of three — the Canadian celebrity, the weird collection and the Canadian sex act. Weaving it throughout the episode was classic Bays and Thomas and even if I didn’t laugh, I definitely cracked a smile of appreciation for what they were doing, because I love it when they do that.
I also enjoyed the shout-out to Leverage, when they showed Barney and Marshall telling how they assembled the fake team that Ted pitched his building ideas to. The music, the “crazy” member of the team, the names flashed on the screen — very clever.
And has there ever been a bad Robin flashback? Her hairdos alone are worth the scene, but after the guessing of the whole scenario throughout the episode, to find out that Robin was shunned because she suggested the weird sex act? Brilliant. But the whole episode? No “click.”
I kind of wish I was writing about the classic “March Madness” episode they were showing at 8:30 tonight … now that was a funny half hour. C’mon, they even mentioned something about Robin falling asleep eating ribs, and she did just that in a recent episode, almost a year since “March Madness” originally aired. Now there’s the Bays / Thomas brilliance that I love. Oh, and the Doogie Howser shout out … yep, they can do it when they want to.
Tonight’s website wasn’t there’s?
I liked tonight’s episode, especially the stuff with Robin’s, er… sorted… past.
I checked within a minute of them mentioning the URL and it was password protected, so we assumed it wasn’t owned by them. I guess it is after all.
The Website is there, I was just on it…
However, when you click on the acts, it says that the website is busy..but I’m not quite sure if its supposed to be like that or not..probably?
its beaver from greek!
yeah thats all i wanted to say. well, that & that chick in the elevator is hott!
Once you get in, all of the individual pages were “down.” However, that downtime is all part of the game. Be sure to click each link.
I agree this one was a bit lackluster.
It was nice to find out what’s been going on with Ted’s big design project, but now they’ve thrown that out the window. (And is it me or is Ted a TERRIBLE architect?)
Biggest missed opportunity: when The Frozen Snowshoe turned down Robin’s request and sent her packing, she should have picked up a chair and hit him in the back. A callback to the Ted/Barney storyline and a reference to his being a pro wrestler at the same time.
i like it!
I haven’t seen Leverage, but I first encountered that “heist team intro” in Guy Ritchie’s films, and it probably predates those as well.
I liked the squirrel and the ending. The rest was extremely “meh”. But the whole heist thing was a really cool setup, nice artwork and everything :-)
I wish the Mosby website was still getting slammed and I didn’t actually waste 3 minutes looking at it.
I think there’s a movie that’s used that specific stylized effect and graphics… Smokin’ Aces maybe?
