Watching Megan Joy butcher a song as great as “Turn Your Lights Down Low” made me realize she has a lot in common with another Idol contestant from season 6: Sanjaya Malakar.
First, we have what I like to call MHPD, or Multiple Hair Personality Disorder. While I don’t think we’ll be seeing Megan sporting a faux-hawk anytime soon, she really can’t seem to decide on a hairstyle. And we’re not just talking up-do or down.
Sometimes she has bangs over her forehead, sometimes they’re swept to the side. Sometimes her hair is immensely curly, others it is straight as a board. Last night she had some of those goofy, tiny hippie braids hanging out of her up-do, and some actually contained within it, that made her look like one of the Elves of Lorien.
I’m not even going to get into the outfits, or the fact that I now realize exactly why she always wears those big poofy skirts with empire waists.
The big reason why Megan Joy reminds me of Sanjaya is the complete and utter lack of stage presence. It just seems like neither of them know how to “get into a song.” The plastered-on completely inappropriate smile, the über-awkward dancing, and that look that just says they’re concentrating very, very hard on what they’re doing.
Oh yeah, and like Sanjaya, Megan is this year’s Vote For the Worst pick. Until she gets voted off, that is.
All that said, I’m not really bothered by any of this. In fact, it’s quite entertaining to watch Megan sass the judges when they give her negative feedback, in addition to all the stuff I mentioned before. I’m not hoping she wins or anything, but this is one trainwreck that’s a lot of fun to watch.

At least Sanjaya was fun, and could still sing better than Megan, who I thought was a guy before looking at my TV.
You’re absolutely right about her not having stage presence. Last week when she was singing her song to Smokey she was arching her back backwards and away from him; it’s a tell-tale sign that she has very little confidence in herself or her singing ability and that is easily translated on stage. She honestly looked like she was ready to crawl under the piano!
Anyway, she’s probably going home tonight so hopefully next week we can get rid of Scott (although last night’s performance was his best).
I think Anoop (spelling?) should go first, then Scott. So hopefully it will be Megan, Anoop, Scott.
I personally think Adam is best like Sanjaya. He’s got the hair that keeps changing and all the screaming/wailing, and the gross tongue thing. Now that Megan is gone, I hope he’s next. I like Megan better than most of them except Allison, Matt, and Kris.
