Holy cow, lots happened on the Grey’s Anatomy finale last night, including a few shockers. Let’s take stock and see who lost their memory, who kissed and made up, and who died … or not. READ NO FURTHER IF YOU DON’T WANT TO READ SPOILERS!
Izzie. OK, so she survived the brain surgery, and Derek was able to remove the entire tumor. But her memory was extremely short-term. As in, about a minute. So new hubby Alex was doing brain exercises with her (and I must say, Izzie was extremely perky for having just woken up from brain surgery), and things were looking up. But then … she died … maybe. She crashed and the docs were trying to revive her (despite her Do Not Resuscitate order), and her last scene was in the elevator wearing the dress she wore the night Denny died (I think it was that dress), and when the elevator door opened, she saw …
George. He’d joined the Army to be a trauma surgeon and was due to start tomorrow. But — and here’s the shocker — a guy who was brought in all bloody and broken after jumping in front of a moving vehicle to save another girl turned out to be none other than George! Only no one knew this until he motioned the numbers 007 in Meredith’s hand (I don’t remember the 007 reference in previous episodes — anyone?). So when the elevator door opened and dead Izzie saw George, he was sporting a crew-cut and wearing an Army uniform. Which leads us to believe that George died, too … maybe. What do you think? Think these two have gone to that great operating room in the sky?
Derek and Meredith. Weary of trying to make time to get married, they decide to run down to the courthouse, get hitched, and come back to work. Only with everything going on, they can’t even get to the courthouse. So they write out their vows on a post-it note (no one leaves, they’ll take care of each other forever, etc.) and decide they’re now married. Still, I think they need to make it official, because these two are so flighty, one is bound to run for the hills when things get tough (not that it couldn’t happen if they were officially married, but they might be less inclined to run).
Cristina and Owen. They kiss and make up, and decide to try and work through the rough times. Hopefully, he won’t try and choke her again. When she said she can’t breathe without him, she wasn’t talking about being choked. She was talking about emotionally. Just sayin’….
Bailey. She makes it into the pediatric fellowship program, but her hubby gives her an ultimatum: the fellowship or the marriage. She decides not to do the fellowship, but also decides to go through with the divorce, because what kind of a husband makes ultimatums like that? She must have been heading down a career path as a doctor when they met, so he should have known what he was getting into. On the other hand, I can see him wanting her home for dinner at night, too.
Arizona and Callie. They seem like they’re back together, even with a little tiff about Callie not wanting George to join the Army and Arizona saying it was “awesome,” because she lost her brother in the service, so she appreciates the people who sign up to save other people. Or something like that.
I thought this was a fantastic finale. We pretty much knew that one or more people would die/leave the show, but the big shocker was Meredith realizing that it was George in the hospital bed all bloody and unrecognizable.
Who knows what might happen with Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight between now and next season, but I predict that both of their characters will die. Their deaths will spur Derek and Meredith, and Cristina and Owen, to realize they need to stop mucking around and just love each other while they have the chance.
Bailey will decide to take the pediatric fellowship, divorce her husband, and find a new purpose in life taking care of sick kids.
Callie and Arizona will be on-off and drive each other crazy, and poor Alex will be devastated over Izzie’s death. Oh, I should mention Mark and Lexie. They seem a little wishy-washy right now, so I guess they’ll take over the yes-no-maybe love storyline dominated by Derek and Meredith up until now.
What are your predictions for next season? Did you love the season finale?
007 was George’s nickname the first year of the show
Yeah, George was one of the first interns to get to scrub in on a surgery, but he’d already made an impression on the others as kind of a bumbling fool, so as they’re watching him do the surgery, they call him 007, as in license to kill.
I wasn’t because he was a fool, it was their first day, he was the first intern to scrub in and he just about killed the guy getting an appi. He earned the name 007, they didn’t just give him the nickname.
Great episode. I was shocked when Mer figured out it was George. I hope Izzy lives, I don’t know if I want to see Alex go through with that. He’s my fav on the show now and I would just like to see him quit getting shit on all of the time.
1) George was given title “007” for not closing the secum quickly in an apendectomy while supervised by Dr. Burke during Season 1. Alex was the first to call him that in the observation room where all the interns were watching.
2) Not a lot left to the imagination: Knight and Heigl are done with GA.
3) The dress and elevator are symbolic for a number of reasons – namely that this marked the half-way point for the Season 2 finale and a new writer took over from the second half of the show and ever since. The change in writing style and ability were very apparent within the same episode and has universally sucked ever since. Was also the dress she was wearing when she went up to see that Denny had died while the song from Snow Patrol, “If I Just Lay Here” played.
The song was by Snow Patrol but it’s actually called “Chasing Cars.”
for someone that likes greys anatomy you dont know much. George omally got the 007 nickname when he was a newbie cos he kept killing everyone and wanted a solo surgery. yes the dress izzie was wearing in the elevator was the one from when denny died.
