Burn Notice – Let’s hear it for the girls

You can complain all you want about the lack of character growth in 'Burn Notice.' But we've watched Madeline become amazing over the last four seasons and now Fiona is following in her footsteps.

- Season 4, Episode 9 - "Center of the Storm"

“I raised two boys, Jesse. I know how to search a house.” – Madeline
“I miss my old job.” – Jesse

Was it just me, or was this episode all over the place? Granted, it all came together and I really loved that they brought the FBI guys (Lane and Harris) back, as clients no less. But by the end of the episode, I was loving the all-over-the-place because so much happened. It didn’t feel like a case-of-the-week — dare I say it — procedural. Instead, we had some interesting character moments and some forward movement on the story arc.

Part of me really liked the way Michael and Cole teamed up, the whole hit-man-with-a-heart story line. The other part of me knows it was unrealistic and hokey but methinks they may be running out of clever ways to save Michael’s ass.

But Fiona and Madeline made this episode for me. I loved when Madeline decoded Jesse’s radio message to Michael. I tell ya, that lady has just become so cool. It’s also totally in-character for her to not evacuate during a hurricane. Ain’t no little storm gonna stop that Madeline in her tracks, no ma’am.

We’ve discussed the lack of character development in Burn Notice (other than Madeline) over the four seasons, but I have to come out and say it — Fiona has grown tremendously. In season one or two, she would have taken Vaughn’s deal under the guise of protecting Michael and liberating Jesse. She’s really learned to trust and we all know it wasn’t really the yellowtail that made her choose Michael over Vaughn.

I’m loving the ladies of Burn Notice — how about you?
