The Glades tried to throw me for a loop this week and cut back on the emotional drama I touted so highly last week. This sent me directly into a panic as tried to figure out where my theory had derailed. Never one for confidence, as you can see! I needn’t have worried. If I had given myself a chance to breathe, it would have all been very clear.
Through one of the most time-tested romantic themes of all time, the moneyed lady falling for the randy pirate, we saw the playful and adventurous side to Jim and Callie’s burgeoning relationship. Let’s face it ladies, when faced with studying for exams or tracking down buried treasure, there isn’t much of a competition. Grades and danger be damned; bring on the booty!
In a perfect homage to the many great movies of the genre (Romancing the Stone, Pirates of the Caribbean) our hero and heroine engage in caustic banter, poking and prodding each other’s emotional buttons until they mistakenly fall over a sought after buried treasure. Riding the wave of adrenaline and excitement, not to mention the possibility of stealing away with the treasure and their only worry to become the bad guys themselves, Jim and Callie band together again and outwit the real villains to save the day.
Being so close to danger, enjoying the camaraderie of a good treasure hunt and giving the scoundrels the heave-ho brought Jim and Callie closer than we have seen them. They opened up, gave credence to their vulnerabilities and, using everything they’ve learned about each other during their flirty friendship, they became actual partners. They knew how to play into the moment, forecasted each others next moves and did so with a deep trust knowing they would be alright.
The intensity of the night brought distinct clarity to Callie, and before the hour was over she had decided to ask Ray for a divorce. She wants to be with a man who loves her and her son and accepts them and all of their faults with no hesitation. Jim’s lack of self confidence, even when being pounded with the true feelings of a woman he is growing to love, plays all over his face. It’s heartbreaking to watch, even knowing Callie is telling him he’s the one. With the look only Matt Passmore can currently pull off (also once seen effectively by Jason Dohring as Logan Echolls on Veronica Mars) he just says OK, she repeats it and the credits roll. Once again, the snarky detective Longworth, so full of commentary when doing his job, is at a loss for words. His vulnerability is so deep he doesn’t trust himself to speak. Callie will carry the weight of the relationship, but I think the payoff will be one of the best in television history.

I’m sorry but I can’t get past “booty call”. It’s all I can think of after seeing that picture :-D
Haven’t seen the episode yet so I’ll come back later but I read the first paragraph. I know how it sucks when you have to – no want to – write something about a show you like and to hook the reader you need an angle (a reason why I only write now and then) and next to the obvious factual errors (which you can get rid of via IMDb at least you can’t be proven wrong when you got their “facts” right) and the spelling (which Deb always helps out with), hoping that you angle holding up at least a week or two to keep the reader interested is like waiting for a call about a job interview you had or after that great date you had for him to call… err wait a second that came out wrong… I mean not calling her within the first 24 hours even though you really want to. Yes. That sounds better.

Nice VM Reference although I have to say that I usually Attribute this kind of look on a guy’s face to Top much playing with dogs. I mean sure I Top think he’s really into her and as deep as the Mariana Trench, don’t you think those puppy Eyes are the same that got his boss’ wife in Chicago to fall for him?
I know – this time it’ll be different.
Because now he has a scar on his ass ;-)
But I agree because while I think the star on VM was Kristen Bell and Not so much Jason D I think Passmore and her have real Chemistry (compared to Dohring and Bell). I keep smirking and giggling and Oohing.

But I have to say I really don’t think this will pass how much I rooted for Mr. Witter in Season 6 of DC or get close to the Ross at the Top of the stairs in the prom Video on Friends. Sorry ;-)
Don’t agree with you Dohring and Bell had easily the best sexual romantic on-screen chemistry i have ever seen on TV.
Jim and Callie (the actors who play them) have some great chemistry granted but Dohring and Bell as Logan and Veronica were really the perfect match, you can’t do better than that.
Just IMO of course.

How did I miss your comment? Well, I did.
I never rooted for Ross in the way I did for the others. He was just such a dork! Pacey Witter had me at episode one and that he was the real star at the end was like a dream come true.
If they are writing it as it is showing on the screen, then Jim has never had feelings for anyone like he does for Callie. He is not in charge. He lets her take the reins, and it seems he does so out of a complete loss for what to do. I’m rooting for them.
I agree with everything you wrote. Couldn’t have said it better.
The Glades is my new favourite summer show. I hope it’s back next year.
