Well, things got off to a pretty decent start for the second half of the season on Desperate Housewives. I’m glad to know that Paul Young isn’t dead. I don’t know if his halfway house is still going to open on Wisteria Lane, but he is now the central mystery for the rest of the season, I presume, as we go through a list of suspects who may have shot him. I really loved the whole setup as Beth went to the prison to confront her mother, and then after denying any connection to the crime she promptly called … Mike Delfino! I don’t ever remember the two having had a conversation in the past about doing away with Paul, but she thought he went through with it and he denies having pulled the trigger.
It was also great that Paul finally found out that Felicia Tillman is his mother-in-law. The look on his face was priceless as the police unknowingly broke the news to him. Paul put on a game face and acted like the two had put their past behind them, but the police didn’t seem to be buying it. All of this seems to shoot down my theory that Paul had this done to himself in order to frame someone else, but no mention was made of that plan and Paul doesn’t seem to have any one person in particular that he wants to get revenge on.
Orson made a surprise return to Bree’s life under the pretense that his girlfriend Judy kicked him out, but when Bree talked to her she learned Orson left her because he’s still in love with Bree. None of that sat well with Keith, who could sense that there were still feelings between the two of them, but Bree tackled him in the mud to prove that she’s no longer the wife of Orson Hodge. It would be nice if Keith and Bree could just be a happy couple for a while because it seems that Tom and Lynette are going to have a rough time now that Renee has confessed about her fling with Tom twenty years ago.
If there’s one thing that’s really bugging me about the show, it’s the Scavo marital issues. I was so happy that the writers finally gave them the opportunity to air their issues and for Lynette to finally tell Tom how inadequate she feels compared to him. Now, we’re back to square one as Lynette is going to go out of her way to get back at Tom for his infidelity. Lynette has always been the most well-balanced and mature character on the show and I don’t think that having her stoop to such childish behavior is fitting.
As for Gaby and Susan, Gaby is back to her old, selfish ways as she completely ignores the damage she’s done to Juanita by hanging on to her memories of Grace, and Susan survived being trampled in the riot but she lost a kidney … her one good kidney. Turns out, in proper soap opera fashion, her other kidney is deformed and she’ll need dialysis until a donor can be found for a transplant. I thought for sure this was a sign of Teri Hatcher‘s impending exit from the show — except the stories proclaiming she is quitting the show are merely rumors. So who will end up being a perfect match for her? Too bad they killed off Edie a few seasons back. That would have been some poetic justice for her to die and be Susan’s donor.
Some great quotes from the residents of Wisteria Lane while being questioned by the police about Paul Young’s shooting:
“Detectives, I’m an expert marksman. If I’d been aiming for Paul Young, he’d be dead.” – Bree
“I have no idea who shot Paul. All I know is I need a chiropractor for all the cartwheels I’ve been doing.” – Lee
“If you find out who did it, let me know. I want to send them flowers.” – Lynette
