Ratings Clack – Bachelor, Work It, and Biggest Loser start the 2012 premieres

The new calendar year is upon us, and the mid-season premieres are already starting. ABC kicked off 'The Bachelor', 'Wife Swap', and 'Work It', while NBC had a brand new season of 'Biggest Loser'. Over on cable, have the judge/host shenanigans ruined 'Project Runway'?

ABC - With nearly a full schedule, ABC was the first network out of the gates in the new year. That was good, bad, and mediocre. On the good side, the Wednesday comedy lineup looked great with The Middle (9.99m/3), Suburgatory (8.75m/2.9), Modern Family (14.03m/5.7), and Happy Endings (7.48m/3.2). Finishing the night, Revenge (8.06m/2.5) wasn’t quite up to that speed, but still looked good considering the rest of the 10PM drama schedule at ABC.

There was more good news Thursday, with the return of Wipeout (8.39m/2.7), Private Practice (7.71m/2.7), and a season high demo from Grey’s Anatomy (12.12m/4.5). Earlier in the week, the premiere of The Bachelor (7.78m/2.4) wasn’t as successful. That’s a series low for a premiere. It’s not a disaster though, as the show does have a history of making gains as it moves along, depending on the casting. A new season of Wife Swap (6.25m/2.3 – 5.96m/2.1) also got off to a bit of a slow start. Perhaps most troubling was the premire of Work It (6.16m/2.1). That’s well off the pace of the premiere for the already canceled Man Up (7.78m/2.4). And, given the reception of the pilot, I would expect a solid drop in week two. The one other new entry was Body Of Proof (7.05m/1.5).

NBC - The week started exceptionally well, with Sunday Night Football (27.62m/9.8) hitting a series high. Fear Factor (6.01m/2.4) and Biggest Loser (6.59m/2.4) were the highlights for the rest of the week. The iffy bit of that is the 2.4 being a full point below last year’s Biggest Loser premiere. The other new entires were Who’s Still Standing (5.56m/1.5), Parenthood (4.94m/1.7), and Chuck (3.38m/1).

There was also an interesting bit of ratings trivia for Community fans. In the last week before 30 Rock takes over the 8PM spot, Community was actually the most watched show for NBC on the night. Of course, it was a night of repeats, and Community only managed 2.63 million viewers, but if you are grasping at straws. … For reference, that was against a repeat Big Bang Theory that drew 11.7 million.

CBS - It was a short week, but a good one. The entire Monday lineup of How I Met Your Mother (10.14m/3.9), 2 Broke Girls (12.1m/4.4), Two And A Half Men (13.94m/4.5), Mike & Molly (11.9m/3.8), and Hawaii Five-O (11.9m/2.9) looked strong. There was more of the same on Tuesday, from NCIS (19.81m/4.1), NCIS LA (17.08m/3.5), and Unforgettable (11.88m/2.6). The Friday dramas got in on the act as well, with A Gifted Man (8.52m/1.5), CSI NY (10.53m/1.8), and Blue Bloods (11.21m/1.8) all returning up. Even better, A Gifted Man hit a season high. The other new entry was I Get That A Lot (8.32m/2.3).

CW - Things are starting to ramp back up at the little network. Last week brought new episodes from Vampire Diaries (3.32m/1.5), Secret Circle (2.05m/.8), Nikita (1.55m/.6), and Supernatural (1.77m/.8).

FOX - The only new programming was Mobbed (3.06m/1.2).

CABLE - It wasn’t a big number, but the premiere of Project Runway All Stars (1.94m/.8) is very interesting. That’s nearly a million viewers less than the premiere for the previous season. Perhaps more troubling, the numbers are most likely going to get worse. How they could do an all star version of the show without Tim, Heidi, Nina, and Michael is beyond me. What sounded like a bad idea in theory, is even worse in practice. And if they were going to do that, how did Molly Sims get stuck on Project Accessory?

Basic
  • Leverage(2.27m/.7)
  • Pretty Little Liars(3.34m/1.3)
  • The Lying Game (1.76m/.6)
  • Jane By Design (1.61m/.6)
  • Hot In Cleveland (1.82m/.4)
  • The Exes (1.32m/.3)
  • Pawn Stars (6.47m/2.4 – 6.55m/2.3)
  • Jersey Shore(7.58m/4)
  • Storage Wars(4.9m/2.1 – 4.49m/1.9)
  • Teen Mom II (3.17m/1.9)
  • Rose Bowl (17.56m/5.5)
  • Fiesta Bowl (13.68m/4.7)
  • Sugar Bowl (9.57m/3.4)
  • Orange Bowl (7.17m/2.4)

How did the sneak peek episode of 24 Hour Catwalk after Project Runway?

January 9, 2012 at 3:22 PM

Apparently I was so annoyed with the new Project Runway host/judge debacle I completely overlooked 24 Hour Catwalk. Not a great start, with .88m/.3

Ouch. I think they should bring back On the Road with Santino and Austin.

I could get behind that idea. And it did get better ratings than 24 Hour Catwalk. For that matter, I think Models of the Runway did as well.

Models of the Runway was okay, but I thought the Santino and Austin show was terrific. They had great chemistry, the show was fun and uplifting without being sappy … I’m surprised that more people didn’t watch (and it’s still on my Tivo Season Pass list just in case they ever decide to play the one unaired episode!). I think they 90-minute PR episode fatigued a lot of viewers. Guess the real test for 24 Hour Catwalk will come Tuesday with its Dance Moms lead in. It’ll be going up against my girl Tabatha over on Bravo.

Yes, I LOVED “On the Road”..!

LOL, I noticed 24 Hour Catwalk last night after episode 2 of Allstars, & laughed my ass off. I thought I was watching Chopped on the Food Network, the loser’s walk was even the same hallway!

At first I was unsure of the new host/judge aspect of PR All-Stars but I have to tell you, I didn’t even notice after the first episode because the personalities of the contestants is the highlight of this variation. Admittedly, I DO miss Tim Gunn, and who wouldn’t? But I’ve religiously watched this show since I “accidentally” watched it the first time in the first season (yes Chuck, it seems like I “accidentally” watch a lot of shows…lol) but I’m enjoying this season of PR more than I have in a while. And the new judges…m’eh.. except I do like Isaac Mizrahi (sp) ‘cuz he’s just sassy enough to sit in for Michael Koors. Oh, and 24-hour Catwalk is totally like “Chopped” with clothes. That show might catch on because of that zany support team that they give the designers though!!
