Well, it has often been said that all good things comes to an end. Such is the case with Desperate Housewives, a show that ended a successful eight year run last night. It was a bittersweet affair, wasn’t it? Quite frankly, I’m still in denial. This show isn’t really over, is it? Alas, it is. To that end, let’s get to it. I don’t know where to start. Let’s discuss the court case first, shall we?
In the two hour finale, things certainly did heat up in the first half. The ongoing murder mystery surrounding Alejandro certainly was the main storyline of the season. I actually thought it was well executed. I like how everything led up towards Bree’s trial — why it was her on the stand and not Gabrielle is anyone’s guess, but I thought it gave the finale some much needed tension. The courtroom scenes could have been boring, but I feel that the writers utilized them efficiently … especially the twist surrounding Renee. How cool was that?
It’s about time that Renee was let in on the mystery. It’s interesting knowing that she chose to save Ben over Bree. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, right? As much as I liked seeing Renee sashay into the court room, I was even more intrigued with Mrs. McCluskey coming to the aid of the core four housewives and essentially saving the day. While I’ll admit that the case was wrapped up a little too conveniently for my tastes, I will say that I liked the importance of friendship being stressed.
While the first hour revolved around Bree’s trial, the second hour focused on Renee’s wedding. How funny was it seeing Renee morph into a bridezilla? It was nice to see Vanessa Williams get to play bitchy one final time. It was also nice to see Dana Delany back on the street as Katherine Mayfair — although her visit was rather brief, wasn’t it? So, Katherine’s rich and a-sexual now, huh? She was also a bit, I don’t know, arrogant. Did Delany amp it up too much? I’d be interested to read your thoughts. Anyway, I did enjoy what she represented in Lynette’s storyline. After getting back together with Tom — oy vey — Lynette was given a job opportunity by Katherine to move to New York. It’s nice to see she chose Tom. So, is that supposed to show some kind of maturity on Lynette’s end? You be the judge.
And while we’re on the subject of maturity, it was refreshing to see Gabrielle step up to the plate to assume responsibility for what happened with Alejandro. It was also funny to see just how much she and Carlos have switched places. I loved the callback to season one with the beautiful Roselyn Sanchez as the new gardener. Nice touch, Marc Cherry. Very nice. Speaking of which, did any of you catch Cherry’s cameo as one of Susan’s movers towards the end? I did! It seems Susan really moved off the lane. Well, all of them ended up doing so, but Susan does it first. You know, I still believe that out of all the housewives, Susan was the one that deserved a happy ending … and she got that to a certain degree. I couldn’t help but smile at the scene that took place before Julie gave birth. Teri Hatcher displayed some strong acting chops as Susan in the scene where she said she’d be fine and that whenever she’d be lonely, she could just wrap herself up in the memories.
Does Susan have one torrid romance left in her? I’d like to think she does.
Susan’s never been my favorite housewife, but dammit, she better land a new man. If anyone should have been single, it should have been Bree. I kind of feel that pairing her up with Trip was a desperate — pun intended — way to end Bree’s storyline in a good place. If you ask me, it should have been Orson. I digress. So, how does the series end? Where do we leave the housewives?
Well, Renee and Ben are married. Lynette later moves to New York and has six grandchildren. Bree becomes a part of the Kentucky legislature. Gabrielle lands a show on the home shopping network … and continues to argue with Carlos. And Susan’s off to wherever with Julie and MJ in tow. I guess I was satisfied. You know, Desperate Housewives has been an absolute pleasure. When it premiered, I was 18. I’m now 25, and I never missed an episode. This show has gotten me through some trying times in my life and has been a wonderful Sunday night companion. What the hell am I going to watch now? Well, I hear Scandal is pretty good.
Ladies and gentlemen, it has been my supreme pleasure serving as your Desperate Housewives reviewer this season. Be sure to visit this summer as I prepare to review TNT’s Dallas. Some of your favorite Desperate Housewives actors have been cast in that program. Before I go, here’s are a few questions to discuss — did anyone feel that Mary Alice’s appearance at the start of the final episode was bit random? Did you like seeing all of the ghosts at the end of the finale? I did … but where was Edie? I think we all know why she wasn’t included. Was Katherine a bit too arrogant? Should Tom have taken Lynette back? Should Bree have ended up with Trip? And what the heck is in that box that new housewife Jennifer brought with her to Wisteria Lane at the very end? Feel free to sound off below!
I like the idea of seeing all the ghosts standing around in theory..but when I watched it, I thought it was so very very creepy! It wasn’t a “oh look..there’s so and so” it was a “ewwwwwww” moment.

It was an interesting touch to say the least. I knew we weren’t going to be able to see Edie, but I was at least hoping that we could see Matthew Applewhite. That would have been a nice nod to season two. All in all, I did like the finale. It was good. I got a little misty eyed when the sad music started playing when Mary Alice announced that Lynette ended up leaving two weeks later, and that the friendship between the four core housewives came to an end.
possible spin off on wisteria lane, with a new neighbor moving into susan’s house? with a secret locked in a cupboard! will miss the orig cast members but hopefully it will be brought back. All the cast members were a close family where everyone has their strengths and weakness, which of course goes along with triumph, tragedy and mystery. Will miss the show that would take my mind of work/life! Also cudos to the people who dressed the ladies in so many different personalities and styles! The writer was excellent! He really was able to delve into how women have such close relationships with flaws, and social taboos. Although sometimes farfetched, afterall how many people have that many deaths in your neighborhood in the extreme manner with so many castrophies! Enjoyed every minute! great job

Make no doubt it, this show was over the top…but I loved it. Alas, there will not be a spinoff. The ending was just to show that life will go on in Wisteria Lane. And yes, the show was awesome. I agree with you — everyone put a lot into it, not just the actors and actresses, but the wardrobe department, producers, writers, etc. And yes, if I lived in a neighborhood with as many deaths, I’d probably have moved by season four. LOL
OK. What is really going on here. I was hoping I didn’t have to be hooked on a TV show every Sunday night after last night SO—– did they set this up for another show with Mary Alice re-appearing and the new girl with the box? I was really dissapointed in the ending. It’s just like they tried to wrap up a complicated story in a few pathetic minutes of a weak ending to a very good program.
SO dissapointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are you disappointed? I thought it was pretty decent actually. There’s no cliffhanger… the ending was just to show that life will go on. Marc Cherry is actually off working on another program already. I feel as though the main plots were wrapped up in the first hour, while everything else came to an end in the second. It was satisfying to me. Why did you think things were rushed?
I have to admit, I was a little disappointed, too. I was happy with the story and how they handled tying up all of the loose ends, but I was not thrilled with the delivery. It sort of lacked any excitement or suspense, unlike many of the other episodes. I’m used to being on the edge of my seat when it comes to DHW and the finale just didn’t deliver. One thing that’s been bothering me is the fact that they didn’t include anything about Gabby’s biological daughter! I mean, isn’t that a loose end? It’s sort of like they forgot about her.

I disagree, Bonny. I thought the first hour of the finale offered us the excitement, twists and turns that we’ve come to expect from DH, but I didn’t mind the second half being bittersweet. In fact, I think it was a good call on Marc Cherry’s behalf. It needed to be emotional. Now, having said that, I do disagree with where some of the characters ended up in their flashforwards… especially Bree. I think she should have been single at the end of the series. Perhaps Katherine should have come back to offer her a job instead of giving it to Lynette. And yes, it would have been nice to see Gaby’s biological daughter Grace one last time. :-)
Okay, I’ll give you that. It did have twists and turns. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s what I’d come to expect, but they did exist. My gripe comes from the fact that I was expecting to have my socks knocked off since it was the last episode(s). I also felt like Bree’s final story wasn’t really fitting. I wanted her to continue down the road she was on when she had her own brand! That would have been far more appropriate and satisfying to me.

Cool beans. I also felt that Bree’s story was a bit,eh, lame. LOL I would have much rather preferred she end up single. It’s like she needs a man to make her happy… and to think this woman once passed judgement on Edie Britt! I digress! I’m glad you watched the show. And thanks for reading my reviews! Be on the look out for my upcoming reviews of ‘Dallas’ which will actually be featuring three former ‘Desperate Housewives’ stars.
