Lost Girl delivers a really great episode every few episodes, which is what makes me stick with the show. “Barometz. Trick. Pressure” was one of those episodes. It had everything I could wish for in a Lost Girl episode: fun banter and tons of mythology and backstory. Seriously, some of the writers must be much better at the banter than others, so this ep’s writer, Steve Cochrane, who is also a story editor on the show, must be one of the better ones.
Finally, the threads of this season are starting to come together. In fact, we learn so much this episode that is seems like it should be episode 18 or so out of 22, rather than episode 13! Either we have a lot more to find out, or there is a lot more filler ahead. I hope it’s the former, especially if we can find out more about Trick, his past, and the Great Fae War. I don’t know why a drive-in was chosen for his vision, but it turned out to be an appropriately creepy, atmospheric setting. There always seem too be some kind of consequences to any action in the world of fae magic, so it makes sense that Trick’s stopping of the war using his Blood King blood would starve the Garuda, who feed on fae the way the latter do on humans. And that fiery bat-like garuda he met in his vision? Shudder.
Meanwhile, Bo is pissed that Lachlan has bound Lauren for life — again — and goes off to confront him despite Trick’s warnings. Lachlan, discovering that Bo is nothing like her mother, revels himself as a Nāga: a creature whose venom can kill the Garuda. But apparently he’s been hunted almost to extinction, since the heads in his box are those of his brothers. I am not sure that all of Lachlan’s actions are explained away by his sudden declaration that he is a good guy, but it seems like we are to take his word for it for the moment.
And now, as Kenzi gets ready to leave town, Bo is left alone to ponder the weight of the world now that she has discovered that she is, in fact, meant to lead the fae in the battle. Should make the next nine episodes a lot of fun!
