This week on True Blood, the Authority (or whatever it is now) decides to declare war on … Tru Blood. At Bill’s suggestion they seem ready to take down the product as the ultimate symbol of mainstreaming. I guess we should take this to mean that Bill has gone off the deep end since his Lilith trip, though I suppose he could be trying to play some long game. What do you guys think? It’s hard to tell with Bill, since he plays everything so close to his vest. But I find it interesting that the show is returning to its roots of vampires trying to mainstream and turning that on its head.
At least, with Russell along, this is more fun than some of the other plots going on right now, but he doesn’t seem to be driving the action much. If they just brought him back to say funny stuff, that may actually be enough for me on this crazy, disjointed show. Also, it looks like for once, Eric is going to be the person fighting for the good. How far will he go to fulfill Ghost Godric’s wishes?
Sookie decides to embrace her powers after her moment of despair last week — was there ever any doubt? Of course, she needs them to find the vampire who killed her parents. Now they have a name: Warlow. And the scenes of Sookie inhabiting the past were appropriately creepy, which is a nice change from a show that usually relies on blood for its scariness. I have no idea where this is leading Sookie and Jason, but I am glad both of them seem to be ignoring her love life now.
I guess getting Lafayette into the Terry plot is a way to integrate the cast more, but I wish he hadn’t been integrated with one of the worst things going on right now. Aside from that distraction, the stuff with Lafayette is just too sad to even talk about. I don’t know why the show runners need to constantly shit on this character. Even Tara seems to have gotten something of a break by becoming a vampire, which has empowered her. This has been the best rehabilitation of a character the show has ever done, and pairing her with Pam has turned out to be a genius move. I would watch a show of them going around and enslaving all the racist morons on Louisiana. The show won’t go there, though, so I will take what I can get.
