The consequences of using (or misuing) an artifact are front and center for the Warehouse 13 gang this week. For Artie, the consequences of his use of Magellan’s astrolabe are already bad, and promise to get much worse. To start with, it puts him in the position of lying to everyone around him, and into direct conflict when Claudia wants to use the metronome to resurrect Jinks. Since the evil is specific to the user, it makes sense for Artie to lose Claudia in some way, but at the same time, since that is the worse thing he can imagine, it may be something else. He and Claudia seem okay by the end of the episode, at least.
Speakign of Claudia, she goes all Sydney Bristow — even down to the reddish hair. Niiiiice. Too bad she’s caught very quickly because I could have watched an episode of that. My question is why she was allowed to bring Jinks back at all? Is it because Artie broke time? Even though it is clear by the end that Jane has gone rogue in allowing it, but it may not have been something she would have done before. How could she not see that Jinks would be monitored closely by the Regents afterwards? Also, everyone Jinks has touched is now dying? That can’t be good. it seems Claudia and Artie have twinned arcs this season. How long will it be before they really have to start dealing with the consequences of their actions?
Pete and Myka’s story exists mostly for some relief from the heavier stuff. It’s good to get back into some usual artifact type action, especially since that can be a fun type of plot on this show. I suppose it was inevitable that they’d run into a Cthulhu sooner or later, since the writers seem to like their geeky historical details; I love that his stories came out of night terrors. The sort of vigilante way Lovecraft’s Key is used is pretty clever. And he heard about it at “Horror Con,” which is awesome. This story seemed set off from the others, but the common theme of people misusing artifacts for what they believe is the greater good — and the consequences of that — tied everything together nicely.

Was that a Freudian slip? Calling Trekkies Turkeys? :)
