The West Wing is gone, but not forgotten. That’s especially true as we find ourselves in the midst of a big election. If you tuned in for the Emmys on Sunday night, you saw Martin Sheen once again taking his place in the oval office. Today brings a new treat, as Maureen Dowd has a column in the New York Times that features the fictional meeting between President Bartlet and Barack Obama. Even better, it’s penned by Aaron Sorkin.
Now, before you jump on your soap box to cheer, or jeer, let’s consider the source. If you’ve been playing along with the home game, you should have a good idea which way this thing is going to go down. An example, Bartlet on Palin:
Mock them mercilessly; they’ve earned it. McCain decried agents of intolerance, then chose a running mate who had to ask if she was allowed to ban books from a public library. It’s not bad enough she thinks the planet Earth was created in six days 6,000 years ago complete with a man, a woman and a talking snake, she wants schools to teach the rest of our kids to deny geology, anthropology, archaeology and common sense too?
I think you get the idea. Whatever side of the debate you come from, it still makes for an interesting read for the simple fact that we just don’t get writers from past shows kicking out new scenes that often. Now if we could just get Rick Cleveland to bang out a meeting between Judge Bob Gibbs and McCain (equal time and whatnot), all would be right with the tv political world.

As deeply a religious man as the character was (IIRC, he was originally studying to be a priest before the move to economics), its no wonder that the show never tackled evolution.
