With its “Casting Clack” post, CliqueClack brings you a summary of the TV casting news released throughout the week, be it the addition of a series regular, a new recurring cast member, a guest star, or even someone making a cameo.
Be warned, the casting news after the jump may contain slight spoilers about the roles the actors will play.
This week, we have casting news for the following TV series: ER, Fringe, Ghost Whisperer, Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes and Leverage.
- The Riches‘ Shannon Woodward will appear in the final few episodes of ER as Sam’s sister, Kelly. If you thought Sam had her hands full just with raising her son, you ain’t seen nothing yet! Kelly wants to move their ailing mother to Chicago so Sam takes care of her. The drama doesn’t stop there! Said mother threw Sam out of the house when she got pregnant with Alex and both of them have not talked since! Talk about drama for poor Sam, eh? [Source: The Ausiello Files]
- Dawson’s Creek fans rejoice! Grams is coming back to TV! Not only that but she will also be reunited with Pacey! Yay! Mary Beth Peil will appear on an upcoming episode of FOX’s Fringe, which stars Joshua Jackson. On the FOX show, Peil will play a character named Jessica Warren. The character is the mother of a woman who was killed 20 years ago in an explosion at Walter’s lab. You can bet that she’ll demand explanations about what really happened back then. - If you watched last week’s episode of Ghost Whisperer, you know that Sam found an engagement ring in a safe. Well, said ring was destined to be put on one of Teri Polo’s fingers. The actress is set to play Sam’s fiancé in at least one episode. Also guesting on GW is Rena Sofer who will play a ghost in the last new episode of 2008. [Source: TV Guide]
- Angels in America‘s Ben Shenkman will appear in a few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy as a patient in critical condition. Shenkman’s character is married to the patient played by Jennifer Westfeldt I mentioned in the last Casting Clack edition of November. Now that Westfeldt’s character has a husband, it looks like she may not get in a relationship with a doctor as it was rumored when her casting was announced. Then again, this being Grey’s, we never know! [Source: The Ausiello Files]
- Some may call it type casting while others will call it fantastic casting! Smallville‘s John Glover will once again play the twisted father of yet another evil spawn. This time it’s on Heroes and the evil spawn is none other than Sylar — can there be a better actor to play such a role? I think not! [Source: The Ausiello Files]
- Actresses Sara Rue and Lauren Holly will appear on the new TNT drama Leverage. Rue will play a company employee who tries to cover up a death in the January 20 episode. As for Holly, she’ll play a shrewd businesswoman who’ll eventually face trial and try to buy off the jurors in the February 3 episode. [Source: The Ausiello Files]

I thought for sure that Sam’s mother had been on ER before.
Teri Polo and Rena Sofer are pretty decent guest stars on GW. Kinda worries me that Teri plays Sam’s girl…perhaps some real drama for Melinda and Jim!
OK, someone help us out. My husband insists that Sam’s mom has been on the show before but I’ve been watching it way longer than him and I am unsure of how I am going to deal with it’s departure. I cannot remember when Sam’s mom has been on ER. I am thinking he is confusing it with Abbey’s mom but he insists that it wasn’t Sally Field he is thinking of. Someone clear up “Mark”‘s post and tell us what is goin on.
My hubby and I just went through the same conversation about Sam’s mom. It took a little research, but I figured out what we were thinking was Sam’s mom looks just like Dr. Susan Lewis’s sister, Chloe!
who is the actress that plays Sam’s mom?
