Sebastian’s back again, Guest-clacking about another episode of Friday Night Lights….
This week we definitely got a filler episode. I mean how can it really be interesting how Buddy Garrity gets along with his children? The guy’s just annoying. So his kids are influenced by his wife’s new husband. Big deal, poor boy. Finally he got a taste of his own medicine (I have two words for you…). But honestly, who wouldn’t exchange all this for another half episode with Smash Williams? In a heartbeat I tell you.
The wrap-up of the house flipping by the three Stooges plus Jason Street also felt too smooth if you ask me. There was a bit of drama but let’s recap what happened — Buddy Garrity moves out, they buy it, they struggle for two weeks to renovate it and while we weren’t looking they finished it and within the episode were able to sell it on their own with a nice profit. Isn’t it great how in Dillon, Texas, with all the drama, all things seem to end well?
Landry, in the meantime, chose to basically get rid of his heartache by hitting on his new band member. Way to go, doofus. I mean this guy is supposed to be intelligent and everything. She’s new in the band. The band is important to him. He shows her that he’s still in love with Tyra. And then he tries to get a date with her. I’m really having a hard time believing that he’s that brooding hyper-intelligent person he’s supposed to be because he behaves like an effing moron. I mean, the only excuse for this stupid behavior would be puberty, but isn’t he supposed to behave better than that? Nice payoff though, with her being gay and everything. But all was good in the end in Dillon Wonderland. Seesh.
To sum it up, I didn’t care for any of the developments in this episode. Who gives a damn? Jason now has a couple of thousand bucks — but he was there before with the settlement money. That’s still not a job. Buddy Garrity — just go away. Riggins getting recruitment letters — nothing new there either. We want to know what’s going on with the team, with the playoffs, with Saracen and the coach’s daughter. This could easily have been another Smash episode, just drop this whole Jamarcus garbage — what kind of name is that anyway? Let’s just write this off as character development and a tiny bit off story advancement. Next week’s episode will be better, promise.
Zebra,
Jamarcus Russell is a QB with the Oakland Raiders. He was the 1st overall pick in the NFL Draft a couple of years ago.
Thanks for the Info, didn’t know that. You know it’s not like I didn’t like this heartwarming story of an up and coming footballplayer but since this is fiction I’m still more interested in how Smash is doing. Sorry. I love Smash. I miss him *sob* ;-)
And I still think Jamarcus is a strange name. I mean… Japaul… Japeter… Jasteven
Jalapenjo…
;-D
Sorry, that was supposed to say Debra.
*POST AUTHOR*
And I was supposed to remember to put in that this was Sebastian’s Guest Clack, so you are actually addressing him! ;-)
What kind of name is Sebastian? Complaining about the name Jamarcus is asinine, not to mention borderline racist.
Do you pay your Guest Clackers? I’d rather see no mention about FNL on the site than read this drivel. In last week’s article, we have Sebastian referring to Smash Riggins, somehow mixing up two characters, one of which he supposedly misses terribly.
Buddy Garrity started as a side thought, but he’s turned into a very realistic character (certainly far more interesting than Lyla), and Brad Leland gives a great performance.
I made that mistake this week again and corrected it after handing in the article. It’s easy to make if you ask me because he’s always referred to as “Smash”.
Anyway, the reason why I thought the name was funny is outlined above and that it was a cheap shot I know – I simply didn’t care for that story nor for all the others and that’s why I said it was filler or better: all over the place.
If you liked this episodes I’m fine with that. No even better: I’m feeling _great_ about it. Buy the DVDs when they come out so that we might get a fourth season. Thanks in advance.
I agree with other commenters about Jamarcus – names are names, what’s the point in complaining about them?
I have to totally disagree with your assessment of Landry. It makes complete sense that he has no idea what he’s doing with girls. 1) He’s a high school boy who’s nowhere near the cool crowd, 2) his intelligence is of the ‘book smart’ kind, why on earth would you think that would translate into social (specifically, relationship) intelligence? 3) “He shows her that he’s still in love with Tyra. And then he tries to get a date with her.”… I believe it’s called rebounding, and 4) again, he’s a teenage boy in high school who, as you said, probably just came out of puberty. That is pretty much the definition of an “effing moron”!!
To be honest I identify a lot with Landry and when I was his age, I was less smart but knew that if you tell a girl that you are on the rebound it’s not the nicest idea to hit on her. It implies that you think she’s a total idiot thinking anything worthwhile could come out of it and that, all in all, you are just in for it for the sex. I wrote “puberty”, what I really meant was he’s acting horny. Because he can’t be in love with her.
Mind you, I’m acting just as stupid as Landry in real life, I know that this is what’s going on in real life. Still it’s stupid. It’s like the other day when I called Tyra stypid and acting like teenagers in horror movies. It just is stupid.
And to be honest it’s all nice and fluffy in the end and that’s so darn… I don’t know. Everything seems to come together in this show all the time. Jamarcus was allowed to stay on the team, Street and the guys flipped the house with a nice profit, Landry’s band stays together… and even Buddy’s kids were nice to him in the end at the game. That’s all just too fluffy.
I mean seriously, why isn’t Landry more crushed? Thanks Mrs. Coach for the great advice that in the future the girls will flock to me for being so intelligent. I _exactly_ know how that is. I’m always ending up with being the fucking “good friend”.
