Medium – Allison as a human lie detector seems awfully familiar…

Sometimes I wonder if there is ever anything new on TV anymore. As I was watching Allison realize that that game show buzzer going off in her head was telling her people were lying, I knew that I had seen something very similar not all that long ago, but couldn’t for the life of me remember what it was.

Then it hit me: Sylar on Heroes. Truth is, I probably couldn’t remember at first because I stopped watching three or four episodes ago. Not because of Sylar’s lie-detecting abilities, but because I now hate the show. But I digress.

I guess there aren’t too many ways to play around with showcasing this ability, because in both cases it’s shown as a sound effect. I kind of got the feeling that Sylar had some sort of strange vibration going on as well. Who knows, I’m done trying to make any sense out of Heroes. One thing I know for sure, it had to be less aggravating than Allison’s BUZZ! every time someone told a lie. By the end of the show I was flinching every time it happened too.

One thing that left me puzzled was that nothing ever came of the lies Ariel was telling her mom about the sleepover she wanted to go to. It was almost like an afterthought. At the end of the show, I was happy they proved their case against the husband for murdering his friends, but I was wondering what happened with Ariel.

Did Allison just not remember that she first heard that grating BUZZ! when they were talking about the sleepover? What was Ariel hiding? Was she really not going to her friend’s house at all? Were there going to be (gasp!) boys involved?

I’ve said it before, but the DuBois daughters are some of the most interesting characters on the show, and I think this was a good opportunity squandered by the writers. Then again, maybe people are getting sick of all the Ariel-centric episodes? I don’t know, I think it would have been more fun to watch than yet another “Joe has a problem at work” story, which is what we got instead. Enough with the stolen engineering concepts already!

You know what would be cool? If spirits knew that Joe was Allison’s husband and started f*cking with him. Much better than another engineering storyline. Didn’t his big idea come from a project he helped one of the girls with? I cannot remember which one, but I could have sworn it gave him the idea. He couldn’t have stolen it based upon that episode alone.

I had taken an ambien while I awaited sleep, and that buzzer kept me up. LOL Maybe a glowing red dot in her forehead would have been a nice touch.

Did you notice that this week her abilities were “on” instead of leading her astray? It would suck to be her; one case she’s totally off base and not reading the nuances of her dream, the next, it’s basically EXACTLY what happened. No wonder it takes her so damned long to figure out what’s going on.

I hate Heroes, too. From excitement to crap. At least Medium is holding on steady, and the family dynamic actually gets better season to season. Yay!

I agree, Modwild, Medium’s quality is holding steady though they do seem to make the rules up as they go along.

This was another good, but not great, episode. I hate it when storylines are introduced and then dropped. There had to be more Ariel’s lie and the writers missed an opportunity to explore it. Joe could’ve used the break from work drama.
