Medium – There will be blood

The dreams take a strange twist this week on 'Medium,' as Allison, Ariel, and Bridgette all have variations of the same dream. When Allison meets the subject of those dreams, things get even more bizarre.

Son of a…. They got me with the to be continued. I’m usually pretty good about noticing that, “There just isn’t enough time to wrap this up.” This time, though, I had been completely sucked in by all the new shenanigans with the dreams and didn’t even realize that a whole hour had flown by. I think we can count that as a solid episode.

Unfortunately, that means we’ll have to wait for “There Will Be Blood… Type B” before we get the answers to the mystery. That doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to talk about with “Type A” though. First and foremost, what about all those dreams? It constantly amazes me how the Medium writers are still able to completely surprise me with new twists after all these years. Allison and the girls all having variations on the same dream was at once frightening, and fascinating. They were made all the more disturbing by how fun the open was, with young Manny and his awesome hairline. And bonus points for casting little Lilith (Sierra McCormick) as young Allison.

Then there were Jennifer’s (Vanessa Marano) dreams…. Just horrifying. Learning that she was seeing through the eyes of a serial killer added a whole lot to her appearance in the girl’s dreams. No, those dreams really aren’t supposed to make you happy. The question quickly becomes whether that is just her version of the power, or if those dreams are coming from someone she knew. Creepy foster-father (Mike Hagerty in a completely non-Mike Hagerty role) is a likely early suspect, but I’m leaning toward someone that we’ve yet to meet.

On top of all that, we got a return to Joe’s new gig. That one has worked out so well. Keith (Joel Moore) is the perfect anti-Joe and I love the frustration that dynamic causes. I’m very curious to see what comes from Keith’s disappearance. As to the big presentation, I’m guessing that Joel will pull it off, and get that much closer to Burroughs (Mitch Pileggi). What of Keith though? Does he make it back to resume his duties? Or is this the start of Joe taking over that role and reshaping the way they do things? My best guess is that Keith comes back, but with some newfound respect for Joe’s personal flow.

Now we just have to wait a week to see how both of those stories pan out. It speaks well of the series that in year six I’m still anxiously awaiting the next episode.

OMG, yes!! This episode was so good on SO many levels!! The whole thing about Allison and the girls all having the same dreams was both creepy and interesting. Particularly the way the dreams all varied, but were so similar. They’ve only touched on the fact that Allison and her daughters all share the same gift before, and only a couple of times have we seen her sharing the same dreams with one of them, but never with two. I’d like to see them go a little more in-depth with this dynamic and see how Allison helps her daughters to deal with this as their gifts become stronger. That would be a great aspect of their relationship to cover, as we’ve seen (barely) how Allison’s mother treated her gift. The girl (Jennifer) seeing things through the killer’s eyes was really creepy, especially at the end when she saw him coming for her. I had a feeling she would end up calling Allison for help. What I’m really curious about though is, is this thing a real gift of hers, like Allison and her daughters? Or is it a side effect of something else, a temporary thing? Can’t wait to see how this one wraps up. This was another very solid, exciting episode. Like you said, it’s amazing that they can still do that to us after all these years. Shows what a great show it was, and still is.
