Of all the WTF episodes of Smallville, this week’s had to be the WTF-iest! As one of the seven people in the world who has yet to see The Hangover, I recognized a lot of plot elements borrowed from just the trailer. But there were certainly other elements of other movies thrown into the mix culminating in a screwball, fist-flying, gun-shooting casino brawl that mashed up parts of What’s Up, Doc? and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The episode also introduced DC comics villain Amos Fortune, who has done battle with the Justice League of America on several occasions.
But what did a lost engagement ring, a stolen armored car, Dr. Emil impersonating Elvis (with Tess as Nancy Sinatra?), a lemur, Oliver in showgirl drag, some oh-so-kooky music and half of a marriage certificate add up to? A filler episode really. No Darkseid, no mention of Oliver being branded, no Alexander, nothing of any real consequence … until the last fifteen minutes.
Once all of the previous evening’s shenanigans had been resolved, some pretty major tidbits were revealed. Chloe appears to be leaving again to take a job in Star City (and Allison Mack is not confirmed to return for any future episodes including the finale) and that marriage certificate (which Chloe thought implicated a drunken wedding between she and Clark)? Turns out Miss Sullivan is now Mrs. Queen! It was really great to see Chloe and Oliver finally commit to their relationship, but it also seems that Oliver isn’t going to let his new bride skip town without him. Is this the last we’ve seen of Oliver as well? And what of the revelation that Emil and Tess did the horizontal mambo?! Whodathunkit!
I also liked Clark’s commitment to Lois and his assurance that they’ll be together no matter what. My favorite part of the show, though, was Chloe’s chat with Clark, revealing that she has found her purpose in life (and it’s not at Watchtower) finding heroes and helping them become who they’re meant to be. The little tease that referenced Bruce Wayne/Batman and Wonder Woman can only give one hope that maybe, just maybe, Warner Brothers will relent and let these characters appear in the finale. Heck, they’ve got Wonder Woman cast for the new series, but would Kabletown go for introducing the character on another network? Doubtful, but one can hope.
This was a very weird episode that I kind of hated while I was watching it, but those last few minutes made up for any qualms I had felt. Looking back, it’s nice to see the cast having a good time, but it’s a little late in the game for this kind of episode. As fillers go, it was a little better than some simply because of the ending, but please, no more of these! With about six episodes left (and apparently a month and a half hiatus after next week), it’s time to kick things into gear.

I’m not with you on seeing WW or Batman in the finale. I’ve invested 10 years into these characters, not other ones.
Plus, if Allison Mack was tired of doing Smallville, I doubt she’d jump into bed with another comic book property.
Needless to say though, I’m very disappointed with her not being around anymore (as well as how it was handled). I’d just assume her being gone longer, and being around for the finale.
This episode gave me the feeling that the writers were sitting around going: “Hey this is Allison Mack’s last episode. What should we do?” “I know! Remember how much she loves that movie The Hangover? Lets rip that off as a nice way to say goodbye to her!”
The moment they ripped off the camera shot from when Stu wakes up in The Hangover you could tell this was going to be the Smallville crew reenacting something they thought was funny. Like they were Michael Scott making Threat Level Midnight. I guess a lemur was cheaper to rent for an episode than a tiger.
Was Chloe’s happy ending nice? Yes, but how can it really be a happy ending when Oliver has been infected by the darkness? I hope she comes back so they can finish her story a way thats not riding off into the sunset with the hero that has been corrupted by Darkseid. Because her just hanging out in Star City while her husband goes evil in Metropolis would make no sense.
Though I did laugh at Clark stealing the Luther-corp sign.
Oliver in the dancing girl outfit made the whole episode worth it for me. I know it’s been done before in other shows/movies, but I still loved it.
