Raising Hope – Yep. Still funny!

'Raising Hope' returns for its second season on Fox. Thank goodness. This comedy from the creator of 'My Name is Earl' is a gem!

Don’t cha just love a good sitcom? To me, there’s not many lurking around these days. Sure. I hear talk. And I keep meaning to try some of them out. Yet lately? Besides Modern Family, and Wilfred (which has ended now, but grew on me) I am completely wild about Raising Hope!

Let’s break down the beauty that is this show …

A. Creator Greg Garcia. He’s brilliant. He knows characters, dialogue and what is quirkily funny. I’d love to be his assistant, or just to hang with him and have a beer.

B. The Cast. Critics and viewers tend to single out Cloris Leachman and Martha Plimpton. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with that. They’re both completely into their roles, and are effortlessly charming. Not an easy thing to do. However! The rest of the cast (Garret Dillahunt, Lucas Neff, Shannon Woodward – as well as the supporting players) are just as stellar. It’s really unique to see a group of people who work so well together after such a short amount of time, “seasonwise.” They have to deliver a rapid fire script and be somewhat slapstick and physical while executing it.

C. The baby. C’mon. Who doesn’t love a cute baby? And even though this season Hope has gotten a few months older, the casting department just keeps on finding the sweetest lil things to play her. And no. I do not want a baby of my own. Never have. But I can watch one on T.V.

D. How Much They Pack Into Twenty-Two Minutes.
Take this season opener for example. There were memories of days past. A crazy mean puppet. The angel of Death, as a bird. A drunken evening. Regrets of things lost. Realizations of good things being taken for granted.

Really. Need I say more to sway you?

This was one of my favorite shows from last season, so I’m glad it’s back! I read recently that Garcia wants baby Hope to age naturally like the Olsen twins on Full House, so that is the same kid from last season. Also about the premiere — what a wonderfully funny and charming tribute to Sherwood Schwartz! Good job!

So perfect.

And so much better than New Girl.

Any show about a pool man and his family’s adventures is a hit with me!

I love Raising Hope. I consistently crack up out loud every time I watch it. And I love the little one that plays Hope, I’m assuming it’s twins. She’s got that infectious laugh and really great expressions. She’s much cuter than those creeper Olsen twins. I love that she’s aging naturally. As great as I think Modern Family is, Lily went from being a silent baby to talking overnight it seemed (new actress to play her, but still!) I love that the writer brings back the old jokes too, like the Pain Free Tweezers and Virgina’s inability to use the correct big words in a sentence. So glad there’s a second season of funny.

This is by far the funniest show on TV right now. The entire cast brings forth individual character personalities that add a dynamic unique/red neck and funny aspect, binding together to make a successful show. The story-lines are brilliant, from a comedy standpoint and hilarious!! Once you see one episode you will anticipate watching every other episode of the season. The new second season so far doesn’t disappoint one bit. My favorite character that adds the perfect support to the mains is “maw maw” Cloris Leachman, wouldn’t be the same without her. My favorite episode, the germ one, episode 13 of the first season, the best when “maw maw” interrupts the initial clean entering the black light room eating an ice cream cone and surprises everyone!
