Alton Brown is probably my favorite personality on the Food Network. Notice my choice of words in that sentence, because he is not my favorite chef on the Food Network. There are many chefs more talented and creative, in my opinion, but I am not sure there is any person more knowledgeable about food and cooking than Alton; the dude know his stuff. Good Eats is always a fun and informative watch, and is my favorite cooking show, along with Iron Chef America.
In recent years, Alton has started a really interesting series called Feasting on Asphalt that features Alton traveling across the country on his motorcycle and exploring the road food of the nation. This year, he’s taken the show onto the high seas as he explores the Caribbean (and appropriately renamed it Feasting on Waves). It’s fun to watch someone who knows so much search for new and interesting things (for example: brain sandwiches and squirrel stew – delicious!).
There is one complaint I have… and maybe I should call it a suggestion, not a complaint. Through three seasons of the Feasting series, Alton has covered a huge amount of the country, and even some of the Caribbean. He has not, however, ventured anywhere near the US Northeast. Why the heck not, Alton? True, I am a bit biased having been born and raised in New England, but I think a road trip through the Northeast would be awesome.
This is the birthplace of diners, the ultimate road food destination. That would be reason enough to ride through the Northeast, but there’s more! A trip during the summer would allow Alton to explore the plentiful seafood shacks, littered along the coast. I, for one, would love to see Alton searching for the best fried clam in the country, or tasting all the different lobster rolls available. Come in the fall and he could show off the foliage and look at some of the apple orchards in the area. Come in the winter and… well, don’t come in the winter, Alton.
What do you guys think? Would you be interested in seeing Alton drive through the Northeast? Are there any other neglected areas you’d like to see Alton tackle?
I love Alton! And the Feasting on ___ series is awesome.
I would love to see Alton in the Northeast too, this time of year would be awesome with the turning leaves. :) I also want him to come to my part of the world. The Appalachian Mtns. have some nice motorcycling roads :D
This may be a crazy idea, but what about exploring different regions? So that way not only could the Northeast would be discovered, but we could learn about the South, Midwest, Northwest, and everything in between. Have four or 5 episodes per region or something similar.
When it came out it would take place on a boat there were many people who thought it was insane that he wasn’t traveling to the northeast and do a series on Route 1, or Route 3 or both. He could find loads of different places traveling from Maine to Cape Cod and beyond.
How about an I 95 trip all the way to Maine…

That would be perfect. He’s avoided all of the east coast so far.
I don’t think I’d like to see Alton tour the Northeast, as that Guy guy on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives covers that, and that show’s on almost all the time!
