Okay, I just finished watching the season finale of Life and I need to wrap my head around what happened. So, give me a few minutes. Go to the bathroom, grab a snack, work on your plan for Universal Health Care. Heck, do all at the same time if you need to.
All right, I’m done. I thought about it, did some calculations, and came up with the phrase that pretty much sums up the episode: Most excellent, dude! Well, maybe ‘Righteous’ would have been a stronger way to describe it. Either way, the episode gave us a great mystery, a little more information on the Conspiracy, some closure for our friend Charlie, and some stuff to chew on for next season (and there damn well better be a next season).
First off, I was sooo glad that Mickey Rayborn wasn’t sent to prison. Now that we know most of the story behind the Conspiracy we’ve come to realize that Mickey wasn’t just part of it, he was the Conspiracy. Putting him behind bars would have ended that part of the story for Charlie, which would have left him with nothing else to do but, um, solving crimes. While that’s fine to watch, Charlie really needs some extracurricular activities to keep his mind sharp.
This is especially true since Roman is no longer a menace to Charlie or his acquaintances. That is, unless he comes back as a ghost, which would be a true example of hopping over the cartilaginous skeletal fish. Personally, I hated Roman and his ability to so easily avoid the law. And, while maybe a bit too corny, I was really happy that Charlie crushed his windpipe with one shot.
Also providing joy this week was the help Crews got to get Roman and save Dani. Captain Tidwell (helping for obvious reasons), Stark, and new partner Detective Seaver all lent a hand to help find Rayborn and Dani. It sent a chill up my spine the way they all worked together. Unfortunately, it led to a promotion for Seaver. Unfortunate because it was Rayborn who recommended her for the promotion, which means that she owes him one. With Mickey being the Puppetmaster that’s not a good place to be.
Needless to say, the finale gave us a few things to chew over during the long summer hiatus. Here are but a few:
Folks, that’s it for season two of Life. Thanks for taking the time to hang out with us this season and, hopefully, we’ll be back for season three in a few months.
I love Damian Lewis, or maybe I love Charlie Crews, either way, I love this show.
I agree with BL–both CC and Damien are characters and people you can relate to/with. One a great actor, the other, a wonderful, let alone a wonderfully played role!
We can only hope that NBC–Nothing But Canceled–doesn’t pull the rug out from under us and cancel Charlie and Life.
NBC—are you listening? You do have a fan-base here in this show, and if you put it on and leave it alone it a single time slot you may find even more people paying attention!
Great show. I can only hope there is more to come!
Great episode, a really satisfying season finale. Man, I love how badass Charlie is, what a great character. It’s not overdone, he’s just really freaking cool. Life knocked it out of the park during the second half of this season-there have been so many amazing moments.
I tend to think the “love” moment between Dani and Charlie was about the love and respect between partners more than anything else. The bond that they’ve formed over the last two years. Really beautiful.
I usually laugh at the save our show campaigns, but after Jericho anything is possible. That being said, we need to get this show on USA! As much as I love Leno he’s basically screwed Chuck and Life, so hopefully one of these shows can survive on the peacock while the other can find life on cable. With Monk going off this upcoming season USA needs a quirky detective as a lead in for Psych. This or a DirecTV deal would be ideal. They’re bringing back classic quality shows, so saving life before it hits the brilliant but canceled category would help raise their profile. Chuck is getting enough buzz, but we need to get the word out on Life. I never thought I’d say this but SAVE OUR SHOW!!!
I love this show, but don’t spend much time thinking about it – so I missed the significance of the bullet Crews tossed to Roman in the final episode. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
It was the bullet that FBI dude shot Charlie with that he reformed into a new bullet & shot the FBI dude back with who then gave it back to Charlie.
I love this show, I think it has a great cast and great storytelling. I’d love for it to make it to a third season. I’m not holding my breath though. Hopefully it will get a DirecTV deal – that would be awesome. If not I’l just have to be happy they didn’t leave off on a huge cliffhanger and resolved some issues.
just my thoughts
Hi, Kate.
FBI Agent shot Charlie before the mid-season hiatus.
Somehow, Charlie got his doctor to give him the bullet he was shot with (SOP for Police to keep bullet as evidence), melted down the lead, and used it to make a NEW bullet.
Which he then shot FBI Agent Brodner with (in the leg).
Brodner gave Charlie the bullet back (not fired this time), which is the same bullet he gave to Roman.
LOVE this series, the season finale was Zentastic!
:)
One thing that wasn’t touched on was the brilliant cold opening – I cringed when the video voice over guy started getting on Roman’s case, and it’s safe to say he won’t be following up on any more events in Charlie’s life.
This was the worst cop show ever made. They didn’t even atttempt to reason how they solved cases most of the time, something just magically happened in the last 10 minutes and someone was led away in cuffs. Even worse, Charlie’s investigation clips were just randomly scatter throughout episodes with no hint to how he was managing to be in 10 different places in LA at the same time on the same day, they introduced the daughter of the friend, changed her character around, and got rid of her for no reason. Life was not a good show.
This show is done in my sad opinion. Only 4.5 million people watched this show. No reason for NBC to renew this when crap like the Biggest looser gets twice the ratings. I can only hope USA picks it up. Atleast we go to thank the producers for putting a nice little bow on it in anticipation of a series finale and not leaving things unresolved.
Well let me differ from most of you in saying that i don’t think they were implying a brother-sister or admiration kind of love there at the end.
Can anyone please explain to me what they meant by one plus one equals one… AND if this show IS cancelled… it will be a sad end but a great one.
The way he got Roman in the SUV at the end … ‘ so how did you survive prison….’
(Charlie) ‘ LIke this’…..whack…..
Brilliant. I cheered out loud…..
Why do they cancel the good stuff and leave the crud?
one of my two favorite shows. the SEASON finale kicked azz!
best detective show ever. only an idiot would cancel it. when they count the rateings do they include the online viewers? i dont own a tv and i watch it on the internet. i think one plus one equals one. means soulmates.two become one.
What about Rachel Seybolt?
I agree, one plus one means they come together as one, that is Crews and Reece. I believe they realised they love each other in the season finale. I only hope and pray we see another season to find out. Great episode, I cheered out loud too when he killed Roman, what a legend!!!
I’m still trying to find out who the hell this Mickey Reyborn is!
Love the series, and damn, i love Charlie!
I just love how badass he is, like just thwack! dead!
well I agree with VP given this one plus one equals one aand something that might just be a hint for a, well, “couple love”;
at about 11min into the episode agent bodner and charlie are ridin that mini van of bodner’s and charlie asks bodner about his marriage and how him and his wife met. he responds they met on the job and that they were partners. he also says he’s still in love with her, after 10 yrs of marriage…
after that there’s a shot of charlie thinking about what he just heard, maybe realizing his feelings for reese, or accepting that they might jsut be more than partners
uhm, 20 yrs it was :D
I think we need to figure out a way to band together and show these networks that if they decide to end a series they must at least do one more show with a resolution so that we are not left hanging. If they do not agree then we should not watch. They will get the hint. But how do we start this wave of protest. I am so tired of investing my time and emotions into a show and the characters only to get shut down with nothing. Any ideas anyone?
So there will be definitely no 3th season???
“On May 4, 2009, NBC announced that they would not be picking Life up for a third season.”
I don’t believe that….one of the last moments in season 2 was the still somehow empty wall! Damn it, couldn’t they just sped up the season a little bit and at least finish it properly? Damn NBC…
No chance for a third season at all someday?
I loved that Life had Charlie Crews and Dani morph into great partners. I liked when she told Tidwell to ask Charlie what he saw at a crime scene. I am also mad when you invest in a show and wham,The Powers That Be decide to cancel it. Bring Back this show.
