Like many TV viewers, I’ve been awash in David Letterman and Jon Gosselin news and gossip for the past week or so. Basically, I think they’re both douchebags. When it comes to Dave, I mean that in the kindest way.
I really like Dave. I appreciate a lot of things he’s done over the years, from bringing his heart surgeon on the show to featuring his mom in various bits. I love it when she says “David” in that mom way, and he knows that viewers like me love that stuff.
So do I like the fact that he screwed around on his wife, Regina Lasko? No, not at all, and I bet his mom doesn’t either. It’s a crappy thing to do. I don’t know exactly when Dave’s affairs with staffers like Stephanie Birkitt took place, but he and his wife have a 6-year-old son. So if it was anytime during the past six years — whether he was married or not — he totally messed up. Even Dave says he’s got his work cut out for him. I’m sure that’s putting it mildly. I hope they can work it out, for the sake of their marriage and their child. Dave seems like a nice guy.
Now let’s talk about Jon Gosselin. When he and Kate were together, he seemed like a horribly hen-pecked husband. I hated the way she berated him during their couch time. Let’s face it, Kate seemed like a total bitch. I felt bad for Jon.
Now my thinking has totally switched around. No one knows exactly what goes on in a relationship, but when you look at the fact that Jon’s always in the tabloids, taking vacations, buying stuff, taking all the cash out of their joint bank account … I’m sure that’s just the tip of the douchebaggery iceberg that is Jon Gosselin (Rich agrees that Jon Gosselin is an asshat). Meanwhile, Kate seems like she’s the one holding down the fort and keeping the kids together. Now I feel bad for her.
So who’s the bigger douchebag on the gossip blogs this week? I’d have to go with Jon Gosselin. What do you think? Dave or Jon?

After dealing with so many politicians and celebrities with affairs, Letterman’s incident doesn’t phase me as much. I actually appreciate his self-deprecating jokes on the show rather than attempting to sweep it under the carpet. However, Gosselin’s actions since the summer with the multiple women, the account withdrawals and his attempt to close the show when they proposed writing him off all scream childish. Sure, Letterman’s an ass for possibly cheating on his now-wife and then-lover (if these excursions happened when they dated), but Gosselin’s Ed Hardy T-Shirts, Michael Lohan excursions, and immature behavior all scream the basic definition of douchebag -
Jon is an ass, he finally grew some balls and told Kate to F off but became an ass. Someone just needs to punch him in a bar and he will return the cry baby that he really is.
Dave had affairs like most of the country does, so what’s the big deal? He wasn’t one of the politicians going around say “We must save marriage from the god hating fags!” and then it turns out that he loves dressing up like a woman, get stones and then… yeah….
It would seem that Dave is on a self destructive path.
i dunno that i’d call being the victim of extortion years after the relationships had taken place a self destructive path. he’s human, he did something stupid, someone tried to take advantage of it, and ended up in jail. sucks that it happened, but it seems he’s being as upfront about it as possible, which is more than i can say for most of the ‘family values’ politicians caught with their pants down (excepting sanford, who was maybe a little too forthcoming about the whole thing).

I suspect that Kate is sitting back and behaving herself so that the world can watch Jon crash and burn and she can be the “good guy”. PR strategy. Jon’s a bigger douche than Dave. Dave couldn’t keep it in his pants but he took the power away from the extortionist and for that, I commend him. His extra-marital affairs are of no business to anyone except for those involved but if the public was going to find out, better it be from him whether or not he believes that he messed up.
Still… affairs at WORK? Really? You don’t shit in your own back yard! You especially don’t have sex with people who work for you when you are in a position of authority. Keep it out of the office or in your pants.
Letterman did a stupid thing. That does not make him a douchebag.

Dave was stupid…no doubt about that. What saves him from douchebaggery is that he admitted his stupidiy to the entire nation and knows that he has to fix it. I don’t say that it’s right — hell, I don’t know how he would have the energey to do that with his schedule — but it’s at least fixable.
Jon, on the other hand…well, many of you know how I feel about this dude. The man is now an official Douchebag with his antics. If he came out and said “Yes, I did such and such a thing”, then maybe he could be forgiven. However, he is just denying everything left and right while saying that he’s still a good Dad and doing it all “for the kids”. That excuse stopped working when he started cheating.

Letterman is Time’s “Douchebag Of The Year!” His hypocracy of bashing infedelities, especially against non liberals. He is NO Jay Leno. Letterman has a mean vindictive streak that has affected his health. Johnnie Carson knew Letterman as a mean spirited bafoon, unlike Leno who is known as a genuine nice guy. This translates into ratings.
Jon Gosselin has his fifteen minutes but Douchebag Dave will go on and on attacking others he disagrees and with the blessing of a network on lifesupport!
