Dollhouse is back with a doubleshot

Faith and Wes or Echo and Perrin

Dollhouse is back, even if just for a short while. I actually enjoyed the whole ‘doubleshot’ of episodes tonight, especially considering how mythology based they were. I’ve been hard on Dollhouse this year, and I stand behind that criticism. The show has always excelled when they’ve stayed away from the standalone episodes, and stuck with the mythology. That’s what happened this week, and getting two of those episodes that fed together so well was a real treat.I’m glad we got the exposition of why they’d make the active Perrin seemingly go after Rossum, even if it was a rather stupid move on their part. You would think that an organization whose entire operation is based on secrecy, wouldn’t want to risk any level of increased scrutiny. I just don’t buy it.

I’m an unabashed Summer Glau fan, but that predisposition has nothing to do with how much I love the character Bennett Halverson. She’s flawed and layered and confusing. She’s obviously broken in someway, and Caroline is somehow a part of that. Her oddly cute affection with Topher completed the picture. I don’t understand her, even less so than Whiskey, but I think that’s why I like her so much. “So, we’re even?” She had an almost Kathy Bates in Misery quality to her.

The best part of the two episodes not named Bennett Halverson has easily got to be Topher Squared. Enver Gjokaj shows (again) that he’s got incredible range as an actor. He nailed Topher’s mannerisms, and watching him interact with himself was Hill. Larry. Us. That’s a pairing that we need to see again.

Other notes:

  • 30 seconds into the episode, I thought Cindy was a doll, but they layered in some nice hints that it was actually the Senator
  • When Topher said Kilo, that’s totally now what I thought I heard him say
  • Speaking of Kilo, I didn’t recognize her at first … #whedonfanboyfail
  • Faith and Wes in bed together was something I never thought I’d see
  • “Hey, you don’t want me dead. I feel like we’re really bonding.”
  • Holy crap Victor as Topher was Hil. Larry. Us. “Are we into her?”
  • Loved Adelle’s quasi-seduction of Lipman (Ray Wise)
  • However, Wes and Faith cutting each other with knives? That’s more like it…
  • Now that we know that Perrin is a doll, can someone write in an excuse to give him a British accent and be all … dark twisty?
  • November is back, which rates as a good thing in my book, but I hope she gets a new name

I really don’t get why people love Summer Glau. If people substituted “Glua” for “Dushku” in all their rabid and vocal dislike for Eliza Dushku’s permormance, I wouldn’t think anything was amiss.

Either way, I did enjoy this double episode for the most part. The 2 Tophers bit was very well done and I always love Adelle.

GL: I would first ask who Glua was… :) Ok, I kid.

Yeah, sorry love her work. She was great in Firefly, surprising in the Unit and 4400, and was wonderful here.

And there was this little show called Terminator….

Good acting from all the usual suspects!

I was so excited for Glau and she did not disappoint. She is a Mad Scientist, complimented by her own Igor that brings tea, and asks nervous questions. Yeth Mathah!

These episodes were intelligent, funny and exciting.

Welcome Back Dollhouse!

Bennett Halverson is a great character. She’s cute, yet wicked. Oh, by the way, It’s so great to see Ray Wise back on TV again.

Ah, The Devil and Topher…my two favorites.

“Now that we know that Perrin is a doll, can someone write in an excuse to give him a British accent and be all … dark twisty?” AMEN.

Also, we’ve seen Faith cut Wes with knives before. Payback time? I still can’t stand November/Mellie/Droopy dog. Keep her as an assassin, but do NOT let that girl speak.

Great episodes overall. So sad it’s going away.
