Over the years we’ve seen some pretty creepy killers on Medium, and Jonathan Thigpen (David Dayan Fisher) is certainly in the argument for one of the top spots. That was actually my favorite part of this episode. Between the strange accent and the freaky obsession with blood, Thigpen became very creepy, very fast. Just the idea that he’s tracking where all of his donated blood goes, and then stalking the people that get it. That’s frickin’ creepy. David Dayan Fisher was fantastic. There was nothing ‘Trent Kort‘ about this character.
Of course, before we got to meet Thigpen there was some work for Allison and Jennifer (Vanessa Marano) to do. That really played well. You could see the mom in Allison taking over and wanting to do whatever she could to rescue the girl. It also made for some great tension at home because Joe kind of had a point. Considering the dreams all of them had about her, and the fact that she’s being hunted by a serial killer, it’s pretty scary to have her living in the house. And that scene, in particular, was another example of why Joe and Allison are one of the best couples on TV.
The ultimate reveal that Jennifer got some of Thigpen’s blood after the car crash, and that was the source of her dreams, was very clever. And, on a sidenote, the slow-mo crash footage was pretty cool as well. I doubt that we’ll ever hear more about it, but it does open the door for a pretty cool story. What if Jennifer was able to hone her skills so she didn’t require the blood of her target in her system. Maybe a hair, or a piece of clothing with their smell. It has lots of potential.
Meanwhile, back at the office, Joe was dealing with some crazy of his own. His presentation didn’t go at all as I expected. The appearance of a confrontational and pissed off Keith (Joel Moore) came out of nowhere. But in the end, it all worked out much as I had expected. Keith returned, with a new respect for Joe, only to leave again. And now Joe will be heading up the department and reshaping how they do things. It’s been a fun story, and I appreciate the fact that they are taking the time to give some real focus to Joe. I suppose this is the last we’ll see of Keith, but I expect Burroughs (Mitch Pileggi) to remain in the picture.
Both stories worked out very well, making “There Will Be Blood… Type B” another excellent chapter in the Medium story. Now we enter the home stretch for season six, which makes me start to wonder if we are going to get into some bigger cliffhanger type story in the next couple episodes.
Great review, Brett, and I agree this was a great episode. Fantastic ending to the two parter. Sad to see this season winding down, but hopefully we’ll get another season nect year. And from what I’ve read, the last episode is going to be a doozy, and it could be a major cliffhanger. Let’s hope that if it is a cliffhanger, that it gets picked up for another season.
