Usually I can avoid internet bullshit for quite a while (It was months and months before I ever had the misfortune of hearing a Ke$ha song), so the fact that I’ve already heard parts of that Rebecca Black song, “Friday,” that everyone is talking about is a testament to just how pervasive it has been over the past day or so.
There are a lot of issues at hand in this video such as, who the hell is Rebecca Black? Who the hell is Ark Music Factory? Why do they suck? Why do tween parents think buying their kids shitty music videos is a good idea? The whole situation is confusing and no one seems to be a winner, least of all poor Rebecca Black, who has already been bullied relentlessly and cried on GMA.
However, there is one bright spot in the dark cloud of despair that is the Rebecca Black “Friday” video: it inspired White Collar‘s Matt Bomer to sing and do a little chair dance.
On Friday, in a display of the NBC Universal corporate synergy that we all know and love, Matt Bomer hosted the fourth and drunkest hour of The Today Show with Hoda Kotb. When the subject of Rebecca Black inevitably came up, Bomer couldn’t resist busting a move and improvising his own lyrics. It’s pretty adorable:
Hoda and Bomer (probably because of their Bloody Mary morning), go on to praise the song and the video, contending that it’s not curiosity, with Hoda saying, “people are into it.” What do you guys think?
OMG. I had never seen/heard of that video until your post. It reminded me of a Clean & Clear commercial. HA!
Just for linking me to another video of Matt Bomer singing watching that awful music video was worth it haha!
Check out the JMU cover of this song!
This is officially the second best thing to come out of the Rebecca Black fiasco – mainly because I went to JMU and loved it there.
Who was the woman who hosted on Thursday? She deserves her own late night talk show. She is like “You get paid to drink and eat?!” haha
