ABC - Big premiere numbers are nice, but big week two numbers are even nicer. With that in mind, Once Upon A Time (11.74m/3.9) had a very good second week. Not only was it well ahead of Desperate Housewives (9.28m/3.1), it also had more viewers than the rest of the Sunday scripted programming, and only trailed the Simpsons Tree House of Horror in the demo. It looks like ABC might have a line on a replacement for the housewives when they wrap up their run. And none of that is probably very good news for Pan Am (5.46m/1.8).
Halloween wasn’t very kind to Dancing With The Stars (16.29m/2.8), which found a series low for a performance show. On the more positive side, almost everything took a hit from the holiday, with only Castle (12.58m/2.7) showing week-to-week gains. Last Man Standing (9.42m/2.7) is holding up well on Tuesday, but the same can’t be said for Man Up (6.36m/1.8). Those were followed by expected numbers from DWTS Results (16.29m/2.8) and Body Of Proof (9.9m/1.9).
There was more good news Wednesday, with every program at 3 or better in the demo. Good numbers all around for The Middle (9.41m/3), Suburgatory (8.5m/3.1), Happy Endings (7.62m/3.4), and Revenge (8.58m/3). And great numbers for Modern Family (13.37m/5.7), which is settling in as the #1 comedy in the demo now that Two and a Half Men has settled. Thursday brought the expected results, good and bad, for Charlie’s Angels (5.31m/1.2), Grey’s Anatomy (9.52m/3.6), and Private Practice (6.56m/2.6).
NBC - Grimm (5.92m/1.8) wasn’t quite as successful as Once Upon A Time, but that 1.8 does put it in second place for Friday night, behind Blue Bloods. It also puts it ahead of eight other entries on the NBC schedule, including The Sing Off (4.4m/1.4), Rock Center (4.14m/1), Up All Night (4.78m/1.8), Harry’s Law (7.28m/1.1), Community (3.84m/1.7), Chuck (3.08m/.8), and Dateline (4.14m/1.2).
The news was, of course, much better earlier in the week. Sunday Night Football (22.99m/9.3) had a great night to start the week. And while none of them look that great in the big network television picture, Biggest Loser (6.43m/2.3), Parenthood (5.39m/2.2), and SVU (7.1m/2) are looking ok when measured against their NBC siblings. That just leaves the rest of the Thursday night lineup, which was up over a horrible previous week, with Parks & Rec (4m/2.1), The Office (6.15m/3.2), Whitney (4.31m/2.1), and Prime Suspect (4.51m/1.2).
CBS - There were no surprises for CBS last week. Everything was right around where you would expect it to be. And since replacing How To Be A Gentleman with Rules Of Engagement (11.81m/3.7), there are no glaring trouble spots in the schedule. I’m sure the network would like a little more demo Sunday evening, and the 1.2 for A Gifted Man (8.39m/1.2) might be a bit concerning. Overall though, CBS remains the steadiest of the network ships.

FOX - The week did start out on a very nice note with the latest edition of Simpsons Treehouse of Horror (8.1m/4). It’s pretty amazing that the show can still command that kind of an audience after all these years. Unfortunately, things started to go downhill just thirty minutes later. The premiere of Allen Gregory (4.77m/2.4) didn’t exactly take the ball and run with it. Family Guy (5.96m/3.2) and Cleveland (4.66m/2.4) were a bit off the pace as well.
That general downward trend continued Monday, where Terra Nova (6.59m/2.1) and House (6.65m/2.5) did not deal well with Halloween. The news was somewhat similar on Tuesday with Glee (7.47m/3), New Girl (7.42m/3.6), and Raising Hope (5.37m/2.5) returning from their playoff holiday. Those aren’t bad numbers, but all three were down right around a million viewers and half a point in the demo from the last pre-baseball airings. X Factor (11.76m/4 – 11.64m/3.7) had another solid week. That was good enough to get a renewal for next season, and it provided a nice start to the new season of Bones (10m/3). The week ended with Kitchen Nightmares (3.7m/1.5) and Fringe (3.28m/1.3).
CABLE - USA was the big story on cable last week, premiering the latest runs of Covert Affairs (2.7m/1) and Burn Notice (2.86m/1). Both were well down over their previous finales. Granted, they were both facing much stiffer competition, but those premiere numbers look a little iffy against the latest for Psych (3.08m/1.1).
